The gaze of complete beauty

by | Consciousness, Holistic, Wisdom

Our wonderful human eyes far beyond being light detectors, are evolved instruments that bring the outside world to the realm of appreciation, providing a deep experience of the beauty of our familiar places.

They are portals to the splendor, transforming the common into the sublime, granting us a pleasant resonant experience of life.

The eyes function like sophisticated cameras. At first light enters through the cornea, then is focused by the lens onto the retina, which is a delicate neural tissue situated at the back of our eyes.

At this point, we can remember that light and love are synonyms.

Inside the retina there are photoreceptor cells, called rods and cones, which initiate the process of transforming light into neural signals.

The electrical signals coming from the retina travel along the optic nerve to reach the visual cortex in the occipital lobe of the brain, where a cooperative processing system gives form to the visual scene.

Nevertheless, our perception is not about a passive record of the external world. The brain actively creates our perceived reality, it fills in the gaps, it corrects distortions, and incorporates past experiences.

This generative process is influenced by our attention, emotions, and memory, significantly shaping our subjective experience of the beauty around us.

In a sense, our ability to see beauty in daily life is closely related to cognitive functions, especially focusing attention.

Attention is not just one of our qualities though, it is what we are, consciousness.

Selective attention is described as the ability to focus on specific environmental aspects, which allows us to appreciate subtle details that otherwise we may miss.

The delicate yet life-providing patterns of sunlight filtering through the dancing leaves, the experienced textured surface of an ancient stone, or the beauty of a brief facial expression is often revealed via focused attention.

An aware practice of non-labeling, a present-moment presence, further impulses our ability for aesthetic appreciation.

By nurturing a non-reactive awareness of the sensory experiences we encounter, we can operate beyond habitual perception and enjoy the beauty in the seemingly normal.

This aware approach fosters our sense of wonder and gratitude, transforming normal moments into exquisite experiences of profound aesthetic value.

Our emotions and memories have a substantial effect on our aesthetic responses.

The amygdala is a region of the brain involved in processing emotions, it interacts with the visual cortex, and influences the perception of beauty.

An inspiring landscape associated with celebrated memories or a sunrise shared with a beloved person is impregnated with emotional resonance, increasing their perceived beauty.

Additionally, memory provides a context for interpreting and appreciating the present. Our past experiences influence our expectations and shape our aesthetic preferences, thus, memory often brings a ground for evaluating the present.

Our ability to make connections, appreciate patterns, recognize symmetry, and notice variations in colors and forms is partly based on our gathered experiences and knowledge.

The neuroplasticity of the brain is its capacity to restructure itself responding to experiences, pointing towards the possibility of aesthetic appreciation to be improved.

When we consciously direct our attention to the beauty of our spaces and environment, we reinforce the neural pathways related to aesthetic perception.

The process of neuroplasticity enables us to further develop our sensitivity to beauty, gradually enhancing our ability to encounter fascination and wonder every day.

Further recognizing that our intention and attention play an active role in shaping our experience, we enjoy an aware approach to the perception of beauty, beyond the interactions between our body and thoughts.

The state of openness that comes from  non-attachment, not having expectations and preconceived notions, allows us to perceive our surroundings with greater clarity.

As we know, beauty is not just something we possess. It is also the recognition of the inborn harmony that involves everything.

We find beauty in the space between our thoughts, the generous awareness that observes all that arises and evolves.

Not being constrained by repetitive patterns of thoughts, we often find beauty in unexpected places.

The beauty that is in the acceptance of what is, and the appreciation that emanates from it, a grateful aware presence.

On occasions, we may first need to see for ourselves what is not taking us anywhere, getting tired of reasoning in circles we finally see the beauty of impermanence again.

Isn’t it a precious occurrence? If at times we forget our fullness, when actually we are wonderfully connected to everything.

How lovely it is when a shy star trying to slow down its light, remembers it shines as part of a whole existential dance.

We enjoy again the beauty of seeing a person or object and comprehending their complete essence.

The total beauty of perceiving the underlying oneness of existence, a complete state of being.

When we do not value a contender aspect over pleasantness or personality over wholeness, we grow exponentially.

Prior to doubting thoughts, the totality shines.

Transient imbalances are inside a greater order of things.

Seeing the beauty of totality, we comprehend that existence is naturally harmonious.

Sometimes, we may try to make great efforts to be just a part, however intrinsically we are the universe.

Prior to clouds is the openness of the sky.

When the optical illusion of the unsatisfying division dissipates, the blissful nature of existence glows without interference.

Flowers share that growth and realization are about beauty.

The delightful view of the greatest sense.

The reminiscent scent of the evolved preciousness.

The irrevocable strength of love. The interplay between light and nourishment.

Blissfully, with clarity we see, existence, in its nature, is complete, life keeps on opening up with a beautiful view.
